COLUMBUS—The ideas of liberty and dissatisfaction with a too-powerful government are in the headlines this year, and the Libertarian Party of Ohio will be making news next month with our 2012 convention.

From Friday, March 30 to Sunday, April 1, the LPO, its members, supporters and fellow friends of liberty from across the country will gather at the Holiday Inn in Worthington, Ohio, near Columbus for a weekend of activism, inspiration and education.
"I'm very pleased to be co-chairing the 2012 LPO Convention with my colleague [Political Director] Bob Bridges,” said LPO Finance Director Jillian Mack. “We have an exciting lineup of speakers, VIPs, and events throughout the weekend, which should make for one of our most popular and well-attended conventions in years. I hope people register early because the low, early bird pricing won't last long and space is limited!"
Among the convention’s guests will be:
- Rupert Boneham, star of the TV show Survivor and current LP candidate for governor of Indiana
- VIP Convention Sponsor and LP presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson, along with a debate among other LP presidential candidates who also meet the required POTUS debate standards set by the LPO
- Jim Babka of Downsize DC
- Robert Wagner of the documentary The Changing Climate of Global Warming
- Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch of Reason, promoting their latest book The Declaration of Independents: How Libertarian Politics Can Fix What’s Wrong with America

The LPO won its third major court case in six years—this time against Ohio Secretary of State John Husted—guaranteeing ballot access through 2012.
Three of our candidates in this "off-year" election won in November, and we had other candidates make a huge impact on their races, including two city council candidates in Columbus.
What a better way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of America's best and brightest hope for an effective third party that can restore the vision of the Founders?

LPO APPOINTS BRIDGES TO LEAD POLITICAL DIVISION
COLUMBUS—Libertarian Party of Ohio Chairman Kevin Knedler announced this week the appointment of Bob Bridges as the new political director for the LPO.
Bridges, a member of the LPO central committee and an at-large member of the LPO executive committee, recently won more than 24 thousand votes as a candidate for Columbus city council.
“I’m thrilled to have Bob in this critical position for our election efforts going toward 2012,” Knedler said. “He ran a very active city council campaign, being featured in numerous radio, television and newspaper interviews as well as building a grass-roots organization, and those skills are invaluable.”
“I’m ecstatic about being appointed to lead the political division, and I look forward to the challenge of building on what [past director] Michael Johnston has done,” Bridges said, adding that his main focus will be on candidate support and outreach. “I think I can help give them the tools they need to succeed,” Bridges said.

LPO APPOINTS BRIDGES TO LEAD POLITICAL DIVISION
OHIO LIBERTARIANS WIN THREE LOCAL RACES, MORE THAN 50K VOTES IN COLUMBUS
COLUMBUS—Thousands of Ohioans exercised their opportunity to vote for Libertarian Party candidates Tuesday as three LPO candidates—including one incumbent—were elected.
Also, two highly effective LPO candidates made an impact on the city council race in Columbus, garnering more than 57,000 votes combined.
Incumbent J. Todd Grayson was reelected to the Perrysburg City Council (Wood County) with 18 percent of the vote in a five-person race.
Jerald Robertson placed second with 34 percent of the vote in a three-person race for two council seats in the Village of Elmwood Place (Hamilton County).
In Lorain County, P. Joseph Calfo was the top vote-getter, with 36 percent, in a three-person race for a seat on the Wellington Exempted Village School District Board of Education.
In Columbus, city council candidates Mark Noble (6.75 percent, more than 33 thousand votes) and Robert F. Bridges Jr. (4.83 percent, more than 24 thousand votes) received significant media coverage and community response in their effort to shake up a one-party system.
“I am proud of the LPO candidates’ efforts,” said LPO Executive Committee Chair Kevin Knedler. “The United States and Ohio need another voice at the ballot box that’s not beholden to special interests."
“We’re working on our plan for the 2012 election cycle, the success of which will depend on our local and county affiliates stepping up to the plate,” Knedler said.
Other LPO candidates standing for election Tuesday were:
Don Kissick - Elida School District Board of Education - Allen County
John Stewart - Gahanna City Council - Franklin County
Mike Burkholder - Troy City Auditor - Miami County
Kurtis Liston - Akron City Council - Summit County
